This course is the first step toward flight school and will give you the strong academic foundation needed to begin flight school training with confidence.
The in-person ground school prepares students to meet the FAA aeronautical knowledge requirements for the Private Pilot Certificate (14 CFR §61.105). Over five weeks, students will receive comprehensive instruction in the principles of flight, aircraft systems, navigation, airspace, weather, Federal Aviation Regulations, and aeronautical decision-making.
The course includes a pre-start orientation with a tour of Virginia Highlands Airport (KVJI), ten in-person classroom sessions, and a final knowledge exam. Upon successful completion, students will earn an endorsement to take the FAA Private Pilot Knowledge Test.
