This Healthcare Orientation is required for the following Virginia Highlands Community College (VHCC) Workforce healthcare programs:
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA)
  • Certified Medical Administrative Assistant
  • Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS)
  • Nurse Aide Preparation (CNA)
  • Phlebotomy Technician (CPT)

Follow these steps to complete your orientation and register for your healthcare course:

Step 1: Determine your eligibility.  Applicants must:

• Be at least 18 years old or obtain approval from the Program Director.
• Provide two forms of identification.
• Have a U.S. high school diploma, GED, or college degree.


Applicants with Foreign Diplomas or Transcripts

• Submit official high school and/or college transcripts with an official English translation.
• Provide proof of English language proficiency through one of the following:


  • Successful completion of ENG 111 with a grade of C or higher, or
  • Assessment through Mountain Empire Regional Adult Education Program (MRAEP) demonstrating English proficiency required for the program.
Step 2: Register for the Healthcare Orientation Course.

The Healthcare Orientation is free. Once registered, you will receive instructions on how to access the orientation materials in Canvas.

Step 3: Complete all orientation requirements in Canvas.

Complete all required orientation modules and submit any requested documentation for the healthcare program you wish to attend.

Orientation requirements may include:


• Program Overview Presentation
• Required Forms and Acknowledgements
• Transcript or Diploma Submission
• Program-Specific Information
• Orientation Quizzes and Assessments
• Additional Healthcare Program Requirements


Step 4: Register and pay for your healthcare course.

After you have successfully completed the orientation and submitted all required documentation, a VHCC Workforce staff member will review your information and contact you regarding enrollment.

Several funding opportunities may be available to help offset tuition costs. Eligibility requirements vary by program and funding source. VHCC Workforce staff will discuss available options with you during the enrollment process.
