Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) Healthcare Orientation

The Healthcare Orientation is a required first step for enrollment in the Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) program.

Follow the steps below to complete your orientation and prepare for enrollment.
Step 1: Determine Your Eligibility
Applicants must:
  • Be at least 18 years old by the start of class or obtain approval from the Program Director.
  • Provide two forms of identification.
  • Have a U.S. high school diploma, GED, or college degree.
  • To qualify for the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) program, applicants must have been employed by a healthcare organization for at least one year. The employer must also agree to provide a qualified preceptor to supervise the student's required clinical practice.
Applicants with Foreign Diplomas or Transcripts
Applicants who completed their education outside the United States must:
  • Submit official high school and/or college transcripts with an official English translation.
  • Demonstrate English language proficiency by completing one of the following:
    • Successfully complete ENG 111 with a grade of C or higher, or
    • Complete an assessment through the Mountain Empire Regional Adult Education Program (MRAEP) demonstrating the English proficiency required for the program.
Step 2: Register for the Healthcare Orientation
The Healthcare Orientation is free of charge.
After registering, you will receive instructions for accessing the orientation in Canvas, our online learning platform.

Step 3: Complete the Orientation in Canvas
Complete all required orientation modules and submit any requested documentation for the healthcare program you wish to enroll in.

Orientation requirements may include:
  • Program Overview Presentation
  • Required Forms and Acknowledgements
  • High School Diploma, GED, or Transcript Submission
  • Program-Specific Information
  • Orientation Quizzes and Assessments
  • Additional Healthcare Program Requirements
Step 4: Complete Your Enrollment
Once you have successfully completed the orientation and submitted all required documentation, a VHCC Workforce staff member will review your information and contact you regarding the next steps for enrollment. If accepted into the program, you will receive instructions for registering and paying for your course.
