A Medical Assistant plays a key role in the healthcare industry. Throughout this course, you will learn the administrative and clinical competencies needed to be successful in this field. This course will cover clinical patient care, administrative assisting, anatomy, pharmacology, point-of-care testing, phlebotomy, and EKG placement through online lectures and workplace skills attainment. A minimum of 1-year healthcare experience is required and students must be currently employed in a medical setting. The externship component will be satisfied in the student’s workplace. As part of the application, students are required to have their employer submit a sponsor letter on company letterhead which states who in their organization will be serving as their preceptor and signing-off on their skills. This class will have six in-person lab sessions, in the evenings, which will serve as skills progress checks. Books, supplies, and exam are all included in this class. Computer/internet access is required. Upon successful completion of this program, students will be eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) national exam.
