Beer Appreciation 101

Designed for home brewers and those interested in brewing science.  Taught by Chris Burcher, President of Wolf Hills Brewing Company, topics will include:  Beer definition, ingredients (i.e. water, barley, adjuncts, hops, yeast, etc.), process (how it's made and how that affects quality), extent and variety, continua of ingredients and flavor possibilities, enjoying beer (mental and sensory perception), methods of assessment, appropriate and inappropriate flavors, and available resources.  Class will include field trips to local breweries with training, pre-tasting sessions, perceptions, and mental bias, developing vocabulary, opinions vs. inherent properties, palate fatigue,  studio brew tasting, identifying flavors, assessing quality, how to select beers when exploring, and retail etiquette.
