Phlebotomy (ASCP)

Laboratories rely on phlebotomy technicians to collect quality samples from patients to produce quality lab results.  To do this, a phlebotomy technician must create an atmosphere of trust and confidence with patients while drawing blood specimens in a skillful, safe, and reliable manner.  The phlebotomy training program is broken into two segments:  50 hours of classroom and 100 hours of externship (must have 100 successful, unaided blood collections including venipunctures and skin punctures).  Students will be trained to collect, transport, handle, and process blood and other specimens for laboratory analysis using venipuncture and micro-collection techniques.  This course meets the Route 2 requirements for ASCP Phlebotomy Technician, PBT (ASCP) certification exam.
